El Xampanyet
A stone’s throw from the Picasso museum, the traditional Barcelona tapas bar El Xampanyet is buzzing come the evening. You’ll find locals and tourists alike – it’s a very friendly and welcoming bar, the no-frills kind. I’ve heard it called the Catalan version of Cheers, which captures pretty well, I think.
Oh, and the sangria… incredible! They do a cava sangria (they make their own cava) that is absolutely sensational. Be warned… one will definitely not suffice!
C/ de Montcada, 22, 08003 Barcelona
Bubita Sangria Bar
Funky decor meets fantastic flavours at this popular Barcelona bar. Again, it’s really close to the Picasso museum in the La Ribera neighbourhood, and is popular with both locals and tourists. Bubita prides itself on being 100% plant based, with a focus on sangrias made from bio wines, fresh local fruit and select spices.
The large sangria menu has something to suit all tastes, making it a great place to go with a big group of friends – buy a pitcher of sangria, sample some delicious vegan tapas and enjoy!
Carrer dels Flassaders, 15, 08003, Barcelona
La Alcoba Azul
This place is so typical of Barcelona! La Alcoba Azul (the blue alcove) is a cosy bar in the city’s famous Gothic Quarter with a lively, quirky atmosphere. Exposed stone walls decorated with weird and wonderful trinkets just add to the vintage charm, but most importantly, the food and drinks are excellent.
Especially the sangria! Order a jug of sangria de la casa, enjoy the ambience and savour the whole ramshackle spirit of it all.
C/ de Salomó ben Adret, 14, 08002 Barcelona
Escribá Xiringuito
I’ve sung the praises of this beachside restaurant before – in my blog on the best paella in Barcelona – and I’ll sing them again! This time about their sensational sangria. Fresh seasonal fruits, expert attention to detail and quality wine make the sangria here a cut above most in the city.
The setting makes it even better! Let’s be honest, the perfect setting for sipping sangria is beside the beach, and Escribá Xiringuito is one of the best beachfront restaurants in Barcelona.
Av. del Litoral, 62, 08005 Barcelona
Casa Lolea
Another fun and funky bar in the La Ribera neighbourhood, Casa Lolea combined polka-dot decor with industrial chic in that typical Barcelona style. It’s not all ‘hipster cool’ though – they’re really friendly and attentive. So, come for one drink and a tapa, and you’ll want to stay for hours.
These guys are serious about their sangria! Each one features fresh local fruit, with a good variety of red, white, rosé and cava infused options, some with a touch of spice or a hint of elderberry. This is up there with the best sangria in Barcelona. They even bottle it and sell it worldwide… it’s that good!
C/ de Sant Pere Més Alt, 49, 08003 Barcelona
