Ana Sánchez on Team Building Experiences in Barcelona
Are you looking for the best team building events in Barcelona for your next group activity? I interviewed the absolute authority figure on original experiences in Barcelona for 2024. None other than El Periódico journalist and author of Barcelona Increíble – it’s Ana Sánchez!
Firstly, what’s the story behind your book, Barcelona Increíble?
“It all began about seven or eight years ago, when I started working on a section of El Periódico de Catalunya called Barceloneando. The mission? To search the city for quirky activities. And I was finding incredible things. Hobbit picnics, mermaid shops, bakeries for dogs. So I started specialising in the “alternative” – I have enough material for another three books easily! At last, my colleagues have stopped giving me funny looks at work! I also write the entertainment pages for El Periódico, and I post new activities on my Instagram every week. If anyone needs a fun activity – just ask!”
And, please can you tell the reader how we met?
“You immediately became one of my favourite people after we opened – with your machete – five bottles of cava for my article on your team building experience. Cava sabrage, one thing I imagined I would have to learn to do in life! I wrote it up for this El Periódico publication. Then you were one of the stars of the show at my El Periódico event. Hopefully I will need to ask you again soon to come for another event – so please pick up the phone!”
In your opinion, what are the best group experiences in Barcelona?
“There are a thousand things to do in Barcelona, which makes it difficult to pick. I have fought in knight’s armour (with Born Combat Medieval, which is a members club), thrown axes at Barcelona Axe Throwing, learned to swim with a mermaid’s tail, and even had a Samurai Experience (dressing like a Japanese fighter and learning how to handle katana swords). Groups can play bubble football – a classic – or learn survival techniques at PlayD (they taught me how to make fire!). If you want some retro fun for your team, at Retro Experience BCN you can have a complete experience catered to your needs, for fans of Star Wars, Pacman etc.
There are also some amazing escape rooms, some of the best in the world that have won awards. For example, Golden Pop has staged a full tropical jungle in the Eixample district with what’s called Jurásico. Outside of Barcelona, in Terrassa, you can even crash a pirate ship!”
What do you think makes a good team building?
“Surprise, adrenaline, something that leaves your mouth gaping open or makes you laugh like a child. Something that links a group together, and above all, a good team of people in charge!”
What’s new in 2024 for companies looking for an original activity in Barcelona?
“At the moment there are a lot of sporty or interactive styles of team building – giant warehouses with trampolines, ziplines etc. Also fun “padded” games – in places like HiJump Parc Sabadell, Mega Game Cornell, JumpYard and Sapakara Fun Parcs, to name a few!
Many new immersive digital arcades are opening, for example Activate Games, Kumove Game, and La Lanzadera Spark 81, all of these are worth checking out for a group activity.”
And Finally…These Are My Best Team Building Experiences at Savour Academy, Barcelona:
- Sangria & Tapas Workshop – a competition-style class where you stir for the win
- Cava Sabrage Class – learn the art of opening a cava bottle, with my sword
- Paella cooking class – work as a team to create a delicious paella
- Wine Tasting & Pairing – learn about local wines, paired with regional cuisine
Many of my activities listed are combinable and fully customisable. Do you want to add an escape room, or host the event in your own venue? Please get in touch with your enquiry to see what we can plan together.
I hope to meet your team soon in beautiful Barcelona!
